Caregiver Resources

Here are some resources I learned about recently while at a caregiver summit and others I stumbled across as I was taking care of my parents.

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging mission is to build the capacity of our members so they can help older adults and people with disabilities live with dignity and choices in their homes and communities for as long as possible.  Each city I have lived in has had an office and they have been helpful. Check out there website and find the office near you: https://www.n4a.org/

Stroke Survivor Resources:

National Stroke Association: http://www.stroke.org

National Aphasia Association : http://www.aphasia.org

There are apps to help stroke patients communicate with their caregivers and loved ones.

Apps: Let Me Talk– Allows you to form sentences using pictures.

Constant Therapy, Talk Path Therapy & Tactus Therapy   – contains speech exercises

I will continue to attend caregiver events so I can learn more and share!

I'm telling my story because there was no one in my circle of friends that had ever been in my shoes and I felt alone. I'm also telling my story to encourage and inspire someone that is beginning the toughest season of their life, going through the storm or coming out on the other side. You are stronger than you know.
