DNA

We purchase trip insurance when booking vacations just in case something happens to prevent our trip from occurring. You can plan or prepare for a lot of things in life but how we leave this earth is up in the air until it happens.

If your parent has a genetic disease, in most cases you have a 50% chance of developing that disease. I was in the 7th grade when my paternal grandmother found out she had Polycystic Kidney disease. It’s an inherited disorder where your kidneys are filled with noncancerous cysts. Many people with this disease experience kidney failure by age 60.

My Dad and some of his siblings were tested for PKD. Some had it and others didn’t. I had the gene but it wasn’t active. The doctors stated it still had the possibility of becoming active later in life. Well it did, for some perspective, a normal kidney is 6 to 9 inches in length my biggest kidney is 27 inches long.

All the doctors and specialists state that my Mom’s type of Dementia is either hereditary or it came out of nowhere. Both of her parents are still living and of sound mind at 86 and 80. So hers just happened. I’ve seen first hand how fast this disease operates. I literally experienced my Mom going to sleep fully aware of everything around her then she woke up confused.

Would you want to know if you possessed the gene that could alter your future plans?
