Choosing to grow

Hi Caregivers and Supporters. Being a caregiver affects you emotionally, mentally and physically but we have a choice to decide if we will grow through our experiences. Through the pain and the hurt I learned a lot from my parents and my experience.

In the first week of my parents becoming unable to care for themselves, there was a moment I thought, I can’t do this. But the lessons my parents taught me started playing in my head and I knew every thing would be ok!

I started researching dementia, stroke, diabetes, congestive heart failure and all the medications they were taking. I wanted to educate myself enough to know what questions to ask and signs of progression to monitor.

How are you choosing to grow through your experience?

I'm telling my story because there was no one in my circle of friends that had ever been in my shoes and I felt alone. I'm also telling my story to encourage and inspire someone that is beginning the toughest season of their life, going through the storm or coming out on the other side. You are stronger than you know.
